Got one of these door hangers from Metro Delivery on your door? These started showing up in Circle C in Austin. Be careful: it's a well-documented internet scam--you'll receive no correspondence or package, just a pile of worthless coupons--and you'll have to divulge a bunch of personal information.

It's seems like marketing just keeps on taking that slow slide down in decency and flirting with the illegal. Shame.

561-910-6990: Phones Don't Dial Themselves

This number, 561-910-6990, is a long-island based Gold brokerage. It's your standard high-pressure sales office. I had at least 4 dials from this number that hung up, without a message. Finally they got through and I said, "what's with all the times you called me and didn't leave a message with my staff?" The broker swiftly responded with a lie: "this is the first time I have called you."

Wow. He must think I am very dumb--my phone registers the number of inbound calls within parentheses: (5)

Avoid these guys, they seem very dishonest.

Super Cool Money Saving Tips from Michael Spadaccini

I had a job loss about two years ago, and at 36 years old I had to learn all over again how do not spend money like a sailor on shore leave. I learned some very cool tips, and even though I'm back working, I've adopted these tips in my daily life.

1. 1000 a year tip- Iced Tea

One of the greatest money-saving changes I ever made my life was switching from about 3 gallons of Diet Coke a week to Iced Tea that I make myself. With all the bottles of Diet Coke as well as getting diet Cokes in the big jugs at restaurants, I figured I was spending about $40-$50 a week just on soda. Even worse, we all know it's a very good for you. Now, you can buy a box of tea bags at Cosco for two or three dollars. That box of tea will make dozens of gallons of iced tea. Without the chemicals, the carbonation, and antioxidants in the tea, it's a much healthier way to live and you can save a ton of money.

2. Use auction snipers

You can use an auction sniping service like auctionsniper.com to buy stuff on eBay auctions at better prices. You set up a bid on the sniping site, and the sniping site places the bid on eBay for you with five seconds left in the auction-- the other bidders don't have time to react, so you can save money on the final purchase price because you avoid a bidding war. I've used this trick for everything from piano tools to sock. It works.

"She Grew Up in a Housing Project" -- Obama's Chess Move

Obama's supreme court (I will not capitalize that term) nominee is Sonia Sotomayor. In his announcement speech, Obama carefully added, "she grew up in a housing project". That's an interesting fact to point to.

Is Obama saying, "our housing projects were such cesspools in the 60s and 70s that anyone who came out of it with a job an all their teeth is a success"? I think his real meaning is more sinister: what he's actually doing is justifying the policy of housing projects.

For Obama, it's a win-win...he gets to appoint a minority (and a well-qualified one, let's not ), he gets to appoint someone largely immune from Republican attack during confirmation (lest the Republican's been seen as racist) . And so, Obama gets to play his "housing projects had some good" card...even though no one in their right mind would ever say that housing projects, as a whole, were anything more than a dismal failure.
